Musica Myopica
Waltzing is done by ¾ time
A signature that is quite sublime
But I prefer 4-quarter beat
The kind that gets you on your feet
More raw, and not so stringy sweet
The rhythm comes from our Mother Earth
And those who live near her from their birth
Its roots are in hot jungle land
And arid bands of shifting sand
Where people live by toil of hand
Delicate music born of city
The waltz not found in vicinity
Of elephants, malaria
Culture that is hilarious
Millions for Stradivarius.

Sorry you computer was acting up. This is clever – yes…me too, preferring common time to waltz time. Foxtrots can still be the rage…even if one is still impressed by a stradivarius! Thanks for posting anyway. Maybe we’ll do this again sometime in the future. It’s a good thing to revisit, I think.
I attempted to post this in February, as Gay’s note shows, and had trouble with something or other. It seems to fit today’s prompt nicely. I sometimes find that I’m writing a poem in the rhythm of the music going on in the background.
i have to confess… every once and a while i love a waltz to dance to…the vienna waltz is pretty cool… though usually i prefer the 4/4 as well…the rhythm from mother earth…nice
Ah.. I like all rhythms and a waltz or 7/8 beat can be quite nice too.. and with the right violinist the Stradivarius can sound heavenly.
glad you got to post this for the music prompt – perfect timing, aye? don’t know much about the waltz, but I do a mean robot… smiles
Aye. I’m a music lover, across the board. My mix has something of everything in it.
I love to dance to waltz but a faster beat will get me going & clapping to the music ~ I like the rhythm from mother earth ~
Awesome poem that has plastered a smile on my face. Cheers!
Lovely rhythm.
i prefer the dance and song of hot jungles.. where the primitive part of my soul comes undomesticated and wild.. in feat of rhythm..
Ahenever on the real dance floor of life.. in my local metro dance hall.. someone introduces me to the more formal style of couples dancing..
i just go back into jungle routine.. yes.. FLOW.. of Mother Nature True..
and lead the way back…
to WILD…:)
I’m a fan of spontaneous interpretive dancing, Katie. My mother was prone to it, to the occasional delight of my friends.
Groovy piece- love the rhythm and rhyme of it.
This reminds me a bit of Jacques Brel’s brilliant (and very much accelerating) Valse a mille temps (Waltz in 1000/4 time). Starts with a simple 3/4 time and then he starts making fun of it…
I’d like to see a translation, but I’m not sure I could read that fast! : )
That is a very interesting effect you have in here – the closeness with mother earth, the raw feelings and rhythm – certainly most lovable, the music from natural elements …
Nature is music is rhythm is flow is poetry…
