Crosswind (Adrift)

The daggerboard wasn’t long enough

Even though we’d reefed our sheets

The crosswind split our paths apart

for months, ’til Summer’s heat

Adventures wait as we make our way

We’ll be thinking of each other

Wondering if our connection

will survive this stormy weather

There are reefs to be avoided

Changing winds will fill our sails

As we navigate new headings

to find what this path entails

The connection we have is so strong

I don’t doubt our tacks will converge

It has weathered some storms in the past

even some when we thought we’d submerge

We’ll work our way back to safe harbor

Our sails will be filled with a wind

that’s gentler, and calmer, and pushes us on

‘Til our heart-ships sail together again.
